1436-ban említik először Zent Demetrikként, mégpedig Zsigmond király adományozó levelében. Neve középkori templomról beszél, és építési jellegzetességei is ehhez a korhoz, a román és a gótika korához kötődnek. Feltételezik, hogy egy korábbi templom előzte meg, mert a Szent Demeter nevet még a Gyula megtérése után kaphatta. Mivel a katolikusok többségbe kerültek, már 1697-ben gondoltak a templom visszavételére, amely 1722-ben meg is valósult. Ekkor a ferencesek missziós munkája során P. Péterffy Domokos visszavette. Bordos filiája lett, és csak 1924-ben szervezték plébániává. A plébániát 1929-ben építették. 1840-től katolikus iskolája volt, melyet 1939-ben felszámoltak.
Kelementelkén 1918-ban építettek templomot.
Szásznádason 1906-ban épült a templom.
Nagykenden magánlakásban miséznek.
