A plébánia alapításáról nincs pontos történelmi adat, csupán utalások vannak rá itt-ott, de a forrás megjelölése nélkül. 1406-ban Oláhfalu, 1602-ben Szentegyházas Oláhfalu a neve. 1360-ban már plébánia. A reformáció előtt a csíki főesperesi kerülethez tartozott. 1735-től – a csíkiak tiltakozása ellenére – kérik, hogy Udvarhelyhez tartozzanak.A fennmaradt domus historia írása 1866-ban kezdődik Bálint Ignác (1866–1873) plébánossága alatt. 1838-ig Kápolnással közös plébániát alkottak, amikor is a két egyházközség különönálló plébánia lett. 1760-tól a falunak katolikus iskolája volt, melyet 1948-ban államosítottak.
