2019. szeptember 30-án, Szent Jeromos egyháztanító emléknapján Ferenc Szentatya az Aperuit Illis (Megnyitotta nekik) kezdetű apostoli levelével elrendelte az Isten Igéjének vasárnapját, amelyet az egyházi évközi idő harmadik vasárnapjára helyez. Ez 2022-ben január 23-ra esik.

Ferenc pápa arra buzdít, hogy ezt a vasárnapot ünnepnapként éljük meg, a liturgiában a Biblia trónusra helyezésével, ami nyilvánvalóvá teszi, hogy Isten igéjének normatív, meghatározó értéke van a közösség számára.
