ADVENT LANTERN (daily meditations)

The thoughts of Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Tamás József

Saint Joseph, in order to become the adoptive father of Jesus, had to pass through various trials. Possibly his greatest trial happened when he had to face with his fiancés – Mary’s secret. She was with child, but he had nothing to do with that child, the child was not his. Being a true man, he was in inner turmoil about how to proceed handling his apparently infidel fiancé. But when he receives an explanation from God in his dreams, he proceeds doing what God expected of him to do: he takes Mary and her child to himself and cares for them as a good family father. What a beautiful example he sets for us preparing for Christmas. Let us accept Mary and her baby in our lives, just as he did.

"God is with us" (Mt 1:23)

With the Fall, the Evil One has entered our human world. His perversion manifests itself in many ways in our lives. We also experience traces of his corruption in our family life. Nowadays his corruption is even more present, visible in the life of families.

If we want it, it can happen with us. Thus the smile of Christ at Christmas will revitalize us to the depths of our souls. It will enlighten the atmosphere of this feast. Let us therefore embrace, protect and increase the grace and smile of Christ in our hearts. That way we will have a beautiful Christmas!
