1325-ben Egrusthw néven írják. Templomának koráról a templom gótikus kori elemei tanúskodnak. Mivel eredetileg szász lakói építették, valószínű, hogy már a román korban készült. Szász lakói Fületelkére költöztek. A reformáció idején a reformátusoké lett a templom. 1757-ben Tompos János (Csíkszentgyörgyről) és neje, Szeredai Katalin engedélyt kaptak, hogy saját telkükön udvari kápolnát létesítsenek. Ez 1758-ra el is készült. Abosfalva fi liája lett. Miután a hívek gyarapodtak, 1764-ben Bajtay József Antal püspök önálló egyházközséggé nyilvánította, és saját papot küldött. Templomot 1785-ben építettek, melynek helyébe 1839-ben emelték a ma is álló templomot. Katolikus iskolája volt 1764-től. 1948-ban államosították. Kóródon gróf Kornis Zsigmond imaházat rendezett be palotájában, majd külön kápolnát építtetett 1743-ban. 1731-ben itt helyezte el a szászsebesi 16. századi Madonnát. Szászsebes részére egy másolatot készíttetett.
