1333-ban plébániatemploma volt Szent Kereszt tiszteletére, erről kapta a település a nevét is. A mai templom alapfalai alatt megtalálták a legkésőbb 13. századi, román kori templom alapjait. Gótikus átalakítása a 14–15. században történt. 1704-ben labancok gyújtották fel. 1715-ben egészen puszta volt, pap nélkül. A reformáció idején református lett, majd unitárius. 1622-től újra református volt. 1715-ben 7 katolikus, 3 kálvinista család élt itt, s így a többség címén a katolikus egyház visszakapta a templomot, amelyet 1720-ban a tatár fogságból szabadult Torma József javíttatott ki. Ekkor állították vissza újra a plébániát.
