1332-ben már plébániatemploma volt, ekkor Ebesnek nevezték, később pedig Ebesfalvának. Az 1446-os évi adat szerint temploma Szent György tiszteletére volt szentelve. A reformáció idején a katolikus hívek reformátusok lettek. 1727-ben Szendrey János, az Apafi -uradalom adminisztrátora, a templomot visszaszerezte a katolikusoknak. 1753-ban az örmény mechitarista szerzetesek templomot építettek, amelyet később a római katolikusok megvásároltak. Ez a mai plébániatemplom. Katolikus iskola 1938-ig működött, majd hatóságilag bezárták.
