A falu neve 1333-ban szerepel első ízben a pápai tizedjegyzékben. Korond neve Murádin László szerint a Korom szóból származik, ami kezdetben a sötét színű patakot jelentette. A reformáció alatt a falu lakóinak nagy része unitárius lett. 1716-ban kezdett megújulni a katolikus élet. Első plébánosa Kais Miklós, aki egyben kerületi főesperes is volt.
1743-ig Atyhával közös plébánia volt. A falu középkori templomát Szent Bertalan tiszteletére szentelték. Egy 1855-ből származó plébániai pecséten Szent Bertalan látható, baljában karddal, feje fölött glória, lábával egy félholdon áll.
